Description

Class Length: One day, 5pm – 8pm, Saturday, June 13th
Skill Level: Intermediates

Class Description: Take your cup-making skills to the next level in this exciting hybrid-building class that combines wheel throwing and slab construction into one creative process. Students will learn how to throw functional cup forms on the wheel and enhance them with textured slab-built additions, creating one-of-a-kind surfaces, silhouettes, and handles that go beyond traditional pottery techniques. This class focuses on experimentation, construction methods, and thoughtful design as students explore how hand-built elements can transform thrown forms into dynamic functional artwork. Techniques include texture-making, combining altered forms, and creative handle design. Perfect for intermediate students looking to expand their making vocabulary, loosen up their process, and discover fresh approaches to functional ceramics. Expect plenty of demos, creative problem-solving, and unique results no two cups alike.

Age Limitations: Ages 16 through adult

Supplies: Students should bring their own bats and bat pins, clay they like using, and textures such as stamps, rollers, etc. If you don’t have textures, no worries, we will have some you can try.
This workshop is focused on technique, so students can practice using their own materials after they leave. A bisque-firing is covered in the cost of the workshop if students wish to leave their pieces.
